Preventing yum from updating previous fedora version

I upgraded from F7 to F9, and when I ran "yum update", it started updating the fc7 libs, files, etc.. How do I tell yum to only update the F9 files, and to ignore the F7 ones?

i would do the recommended way by doing a fresh install and not use the "upgrade" option it is still experimental
there are so many new things in 9 vs fedora7 .

Its going to want to update those f7 those as you are trying to upgrade. You really need to do a fresh install completely. If you have started mixing fc7 packages with f9 things are going to get really messy eventually and may end up unusable in the future.
