Upgrade F8 to F9 fails

After F8 to F9 u/grade most apps wouldn't open eg; Firefox, Ooffice. I researched and downloaded the updated fedora_release_package but when I install; 'rpm -Uvh fedora-release-8-6.transition.noarch.rpm' I get 'failed dependencies' 'fedora-release >= 9 is needed by(installed) livna-release-9-1.noarch. thanks

this is why we all ( almost all ) recommend doing a fresh install and not use upgrade.

I've taken that advice and done a clean install and all is OK. Never had too many problems in upgrades in the past though. Thanks

The best course is what you have taken. Take backup of all your data, go for fresh install and reload all you data. I too don't know why, but of late there are problems doing updates (F-8 onwards).
