Extracting Files to a CD

I downloaded puppy-4.1-k2.6.25.16-seamonkey.iso and then tried to extract the files to My Disc but it says "Extraction not performed. You don't have the right permissions to extract archives in the folder "/media/My Disc"

I opened a terminal and changed [rayber@localhost ~]$ to [root@localhost rayber]# but I dont know what formula to write after it to get the downloaded iso extracted to the CD.

I found the CD Creator but couldn't find the location of the downloaded file. I don't know if I can use the CD Creator to extract the files to the CD anyway.

Can anyone help?

Ray

Hello rayber,

Well, it's not clear (to me, anyway) what you want to accomplish. Sorry. That ISO file is for a Puppy Linux LiveCD. So if you are trying to create the LiveCD, you shouldn't be extracting the files from the ISO file. You should instead burn the ISO to disk as an image. And that CD Creator app (Roxio, right?) can do it. So can Nero or K3b or any other burning software. But the point is to burn the project as an image and not as data. Open your burning software and look for an option such as "Burn Image" or "Burn CD Image" or "Burn from Disc Image File" or "Disc Image or Saved Project" or something along those lines. Find the ISO file, add it to the project to be burned, and burn it.

Now, if you are doing something else and have a good reason to be extracting the files directly to a CD, then forgive me and accept my apologies. As long as you know what you are doing, that's what important.

Hi stoat,

Thanks for the reply. You are on the right track om where my confusion was. I'll get back on the computer I have Fedora 8 on and burn the ISO to disk as an image. It's ths standard CD Creator app that comes with Fedora 8 - I may have its name or description wrong as I was on my computer I have Windows XP on when I sent the message.

I'll follow your advice on burning the image.

(It was seeing the image the download managing window that made me think I had to extract it to the CD but I understand now that for a live image the ISO must be burned to the CD. So I didn't know what I was doing at that stage.)

I think I know what I am doing now. (Famous last words!)

Thanks again, regards from Ray

If you are using Gnome desktop and right click on the iso and choose "Write to Disk" from the menu, couldn't be easier unless somebody clicked a couple of times and inserted and then removed the CD for you.
