If you mean the graphical boot, the answer is no.
You can alter the source code and play with it of course, but there's no theming for it.

You are all insane
of course you can change it!
if you are referring to the GRUB bootloader you can use any image you want (just make sure its the right format and numbe rof colors) in fact there is a website with specific instructions on how to edit an image with gimp and use it for the grub background. they even have some images you can download and use.
If you are referring to the actuall text on the screen yeah you can change that too
If you are referring to the rhgb screen you can change that too (just replace the boring background with any background of your choosing)
If you are referring to the LILO background you can change that too... you can even use animated and interactive backgrounds for it
BOOM!

theres a bunch more links with google searches

its actually easier than you think. I am not on my linux machine right now but there is a directory /something/something/rhgb/ and it contains the background image, all youhave to do is overwrite it with a new one, any picture will do. since rhgb actually uses your X server there is no color limit to the image.
now... if anyone knows how to change the gtk theme of rhgb let me know, i am too lazy to dig around and work that one out

Ah - that allows you to change the pieces of the graphical boot screen (/usr/share/rhgb, by the way). Apparenly there's no way to actually change the background color/image, though, without rebulding /usr/bin/rhgb

I guess hiberphoptik means the background image of the grub menu, whereas ghaefb means the rhgb (that image of a pc and the progress bar while booting fc2)..
it's about time, someone made that clear

nonono im talking about the actual background of RHGB you dont have to rebuild anything
do this:
1. cd /usr/share/rhgb
2. replace any of those .png files with your own

Regarding rhgb, does anyone know how to change the font or shut of the antialiasing during the boot splash?
The text just looks pretty ugly.
