Kudzu after bootup

Let's say, for example, that I plug in a USB/FireWire device (iPod, stroage drive, who knows) AFTER fully booting up and into gnome. Is it possible for Kudzu to be called to pickup and evaluate the new device to add such things as fstab entries, etc.?

Hi,

try as root run kudzu command.

AFAIK hotplugable usb device are managed by hotplug subsystem. I dont know if kudzu will solve your problem.

Re: Kudzu after bootup

I think you would have been better off starting a new thread, rather than adding to one that had it's last post 6 years ago--no, 7 years now.

Googling the term kudzu replacement fedora found, on the third hit

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Anacon...es/NoMoreKudzu

shows that as of F9, it was stopped, as the various other system tools should, in theory, automatically recognize new hardware. If the hardware isn't going to be seen, even if kudzu were still there, it probably wouldn't have seen it either.

I would recommend starting a new thread, with a useful title, such as <whatever_hardware> isn't recognized by Fedora 14.

Also, please don't take this wrong, but many people who have been around for a long time, and therefore, most able to help, will be mildly annoyed by such text speak abbreviations such as tnx for thanks--their logic is often, if someone is so lazy that they won't type 3 extra letters, they're too lazy to do any work required. Take a look at

http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

None of this is criticism--sometimes, folks new to these forums simply don't realize these things--also, always good to read the posting guidelines of this forum (there's a link for posting rules at the top of the page.)

So, short answer to your question, kudzu isn't in Fedora anymore, your hardware should be detected automatically. If it's not detected, your best chance of getting help is to start a new thread, mentioning the hardware in the subject line.

I'm so sorry about using this kind of abbreviations (TNX).
I did not mean to be impolite.i just did not know about your writing rule.
Afterward i surely apply correct form of the words.

No problem--and note that I'm not a forum moderator, just a long time resident fellow user. Again, best way to get help for your issue is to start a separate thread. (And believe me, you're not the first one who hasn't noticed that the last post in a thread was a long time ago--it also shows that you are searching for the solution before posting, which is always a good thing.)
