I am using an off the shelf PC with an Intel DP35DP motherboard (BIOS version 0497 released 10/07/2008). I am having two problems. First, after 64-bit Fedora 10 boots from the DVD into the text based installer it loses the DVD drive. I am using an SATA Plextor PX-755SA DVD burner that is plugged directly into an SATA port on the motherboard that is controlled by the ICH9R chipset.
My second problem is that I am unable to do a UEFI install of 64-bit Fedora 10. I have the UEFI Boot option enabled in the BIOS setup and I changed the IDE Controller setting to Legacy mode (required for UEFI boot). Strangely enough, when I press the F10 key on my keyboard during POST to display the UEFI boot menu there is no EFI entry listed for the Fedora 10 DVD. When I install 64-bit Windows Vista SP 1 in this manner an EFI entry for the Vista DVD is listed in my motherboard's boot menu.
Seriously, does ANYONE know how to do a UEFI install of 64-bit Linux? The 64-bit versions of both Fedora 9 and 10 have a file on the DVD called "efiboot.img". Ubuntu 8.10 (at least during beta) and Fedora versions 9 and 10 claim to support a native EFI install on x64 platforms. WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP?! Is 64-bit Windows Vista really the only OS that supports a native UEFI install?
