Fedora 10 Evolution <-> Exchange server
So, there I am working happily with Fedora 8, evolution chatting happily to exchange 2003, calendar sync the works...impressed. This continued through Fedora 9 (though a little bumpy as all odd numbered Fedora releases are).
On to Fedora 10, yes works a treat out of the box (DVD). A couple of updates to evolution later, through yumex (fedora updates), and evolution has stopped sending email to the exchange server. It's also touch and go whether I can read email using OWA.
On pressing 'Send/Receive' evolution pops the error,
Error while performing operation.
Exchange transport can only be used with Exchange mail source.
Googling doesn't return anything useful, other than someone else with the same problem and some links to translation work.
So, is anyone else having problems with evolution and exchange?
How could I back out these evolution updates?

Any feedback
I've had the same problem since December. Any feedback/ideas on how to fix this issue?

What I find hard to understand that for linux/GNU to break into an business market (and get business support to fund developement of apps/os/drivers for linux) then it has to fix bugs associated with its interworkings with commercial (existing) systems. From what I've read about this bug is has been given a low priority to fix. Err, no, big mistake. This needs to be fixed.
Ho-hum!

I would second that; this is a break factor to me. Corporate email, calendars and directory are central. If I'm to continue using Linux/Fedora on my desktop, issues like these have to be resolved. Otherwise we end up with a toy nobody takes seriously.

It is fast becoming the breaker for me with linux. I don't connect my laptop to the internet very often, only when I have to read/review/write/send email attachments that would be impossible to do on my blackberry (corporate badge on my shirt). And I need it to work reliably, first time, every time.
Somedays I'm like a swan with linux; a picture of serenity and in control above water, but paddling like hell underwater. When things like my connection with a corp exchange server refuses to work I have to run around/hack/p*ss about finding other ways of achieving the same goal, but slower! Do you know how bad that looks to the 'Corp'? Man, I've just about had my fill of defending linux et al to my peers, superiors, etc. Linux on corp desktop...?? Sorry, rearrange the priorities, linux apps can really sux!

I will also agree there are some weird behaviours going on with evolution in Fedora 10 and exchange server 2003. It appears to function a bit snappier, but there are also some quirks, for starters, I cannot use the global address book for half the addresses. The address pull up in the TO line, but as soon as I hit enter, or even click on the address to select it, and then move OUT of the TO field, the TO field becomes blank, so there are people in our company I currently cannot send email to.

Re: Fedora 10 Evolution <-> Exchange server
Heck I would be happy just being able to find someplace that I can download evolution exchange so that I can start having the same fun you guys are having. I recently purchased another laptop to put Linux on and am attempting to make it work. I have no exchange server in the drop down menus for configuring and I can't seem to find any place to download evolution exchange from. I have tried the add remove software am running the latest version of evolution and have tried to locate it through the help files as well.
I am running fedora 12 x86_64.I know it is linux and we are supposed to help ourselves as much as possible. However I can't find anything in the FAQ or in the forums about this particular problem. You guys all seem to have exchange but have problems running it. I want to get to that stage to. What am I missing? can anyone tell me?

Re: Fedora 10 Evolution <-> Exchange server
TCP, use yumex and search for 'MAPI' and 'exchange' in the packages.

Re: Fedora 10 Evolution <-> Exchange server
thanks for quick response. I tried the above and could not find a thing using yumex. I did get a lot of updates to evolution though. plus a heck of a set of red eyes scrolling up and down all those lists looking for these 2 key words. I think the gods may have been conspiring against me so that my eyes were unable to see those particular words . Anyway it did get me going with some keywords and looking around. I got to this link here http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/b...buildID=160790 and attempted to download the x86_64 version. Then i got a dependency issue that I am currently having trouble resolving. I believe I now need to figure out how to add a software repository to my updates. This is what I like about Linux, each day a journey of dozens of adventures.
Anyway I wanted to thank you and let you know I am working with the info you gave me so you didn't feel you wasted your time.

OH GOOD GOLLY.
If only I had waited a few seconds to reply. The very next thing I tried (an earlier version) worked and I now have the exchange server option in my drop down menus. I can hardly wait to actually try to set it up now .
Thanks lots.
