White screen on install

Hi, complete trying newbie trying to get to grips with linux. Tried ubuntu and didnt like that so someone suggested fedora. I'm having the same problem I had with ubuntu, I get a white screen when trying to load the graphical install after the media test. On ubuntu this was solved by selecting simple graphics mode. Here I have tried the following commands during install with still no luck

nomodeset
vga=7 (tried various modes)
text

The text install just freezes after selecting the keyboard layout so that does not even work. Tried searching for forums but only solutions I could find where the previous.

Many thanks

(Graphics card is ATI HD 4870X2, monitor 47inch Samsung Regza)

Ok, I have tried hooking up a 24inch Acer monitor and just get the same result (well with added black squares and lines this time but still white screen). So obviously not the problem with the screen

Try very simple vesa. It solved my problem with black screen during install of F9.

It's really only vesa, not linux=vesa etc. I wonder if it helps.

Thanks I'll try that later tonight. Though I have tried using several VESA modes when using the vga= option. It seems no matter what mode I use, it just ignores it when the anaconda loader loads up. Is there separate settings for the anaconda installer ?

I'm not sure, but I think that vesa and vga=xxx are not connected. BTW, if you want to see full list of supported vga modes, than do vga=ask. It'll show all modes with coresponding codes so you'll exactly know which one is what.

I think the command option you want to use at the install prompt is:

linux xdriver=vesa

Though not specific to your video card, this recent post should give you a bit more guidance.
