System software all fully up-to-date? If so, possibly just another victim of the libX11 meltdown. Search, it's easy to find - and to fix.

I found libx11 in add/remove software.
there is a libx11 runtime library and a libx11 development package, do I install both?

No: you do not need the libX11-devel package, except to compile stuff that requires libX11 (including video driver kmods). So if you don't compile stuff (including video driver kmods), you don't need the *-devel, just the run-time library.

P.S. Fixed RPM package hould be: libX11-1.1.5-2.fc10

P.P.S. A re-start of X11 is required (log out of desktop, press ALT-CTL-Backspace) to flush the old libX11 from RAM.

I did not have all the required packages for cairo installed, Once i installed them it worked out. Now it is just a matter of adjusting cairo to my preferences.
I appreciate the help.
