ssh external usb hard drive?

I have all computers (6) 5 fedora 10, 1 mint able to communicate via sshd. I would like all computers to be able to access and use a external hard drive usb connection to the only desktop in the house lan to the router. There is a icon on the desktop however when you access computer via sshd I can not locate the external hard drive icon, it is not in the desktop folder or any other. Can you please tell me how to find via ssh and how easy it is to write too.

I access my external drive on my desktop computer from my laptop computer by opening the media folder, like:
fish://user@192.168.x.xxx/media/external/

I also have the backup program on the laptop to backup to:
fish://user@192.168.x.xxx/media/external/backups/laptop
