I had a problem installing the Creative XFi Beta drivers and got some great help on here, but the installation still hangs at the same point (I understand from a post I made about it in early 2008 that it was a poorly written driver).
I searched the net and saw that OSS natively includes a working driver and tried to install it. I forgot to turn off the built-in sound so rebooted and edited BIOS. I then did the following:

The only problem is that, even after another reboot, the sound still doesn't work. I expect it's to do with the fact that I haven't touched ALSA at all.
I found instructions to uninstall ALSA at
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-really-97911/
Before I do, I was wondering if anyone would know what would happen to DVD and Music playback etc? I remember seeing references to ALSA plugins and don't want to ruin Music & Movie Player.
Thanks in advanced for any help/tips/pointers.
