Problem with installing pidgin in debian

Hi,
apt-get install pidgin
Code:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
pidgin: Depends: libgtkspell0 (>= 2.0.10) but it is not installable
Depends: libpurple0 (>= 2.4.3-4lenny1~volatile0) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
uname -a
Code:
Linux debian 2.6.26-1-686 #1 SMP Sat Jan 10 18:29:31 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Hello Cola,

Which release are you using?
Etch? Kernel looks like it might be Etch.
I have just come from Debian 4r6, which was updated fairly frequent.
I have my deb's archived on a WD MyBook (terabyte).
Check your repositories also.
Which repo's do you have?

Finally managed to install pidgin in debian.
But it is out-dated comparing the installed version in fedora 10.
Code:
Pidgin 2.4.3

Hello Cola,

There are a couple of more repo's you can use.
Debian Unofficial and Debian Backports.
Version numbers are irrelevant. So long as the package works.
If you want to go by package versions, then I suggest that you goto sidux... lol j/k
