icon theme doesn't affect folder icon

Here's an interesting oddity. In Fedora 10, when I install an icon theme, it plainly displays in the Look and Feel>Customize>Icons. But when I select them, they never change the icon for a folder, which remains plain Gnome grey. (other icons -- for applications and devices -- DO change). Is this only true for me?

no this issue is due to icons you are using. they were writen for older Gnome than current for Fedora 10 so some stuff does not work ! I would suggest to use new icons or constantly updated ones like a clearlook for example or

Thank you. It's true that many of these themes were older. How does one identify which ones will work -- short of downloading, testing, and discovering that they don't? I've tried a couple of new-ish downloads that don't seem to work either (a Vista-knockoff, for instance).

try to get those which made for Gnome 2.x for example this will work for sure:

If it's not written that it made for gnome 2, do not try it, wont work anyway.

OK, you're right. That icon theme immediately changed everything. That clears it all up for me. Thanks!
