mp4 playback in XMMS
During my Windows days I encoded a great part of my CD collection to mp4 (about 400 CDs) but unfortunately I can't find a way to play them back on Linux. MPlayer has mp4 support but misses an option like "add directory". So, what other way is there to play MP4 (AAC) on Linux?

well now you'll start using ogg vorbis!
but you can use mplayer to play the mp4 files in xmmps using the xmms-mplayer plugin. check if its available via yum
Code:
yum install xmms-mplayer

Thank you!
I can't use yum because right now I am using a Windows pc at my university. My Linux box at home has no online connection. I couldn't find a rpm specifically for FC 2, so I just fetched the rpm from the official site of xmms-mplayer. I hope this will do as well.

Actually the best thing that could happen would be a Foobar2000 port to Linux (foo2k is IMO the absolutely best audio player for Windows and was one of the reasons for fiddling with Windows a bit longer than I originally intended).

I'll try to install the debian plugin. However, the rpm from bone.net doesn't work so far. The situation is a bit frustrating right now...
On the XMMS page I came across the sourcecode for a plugin which, however, didn't compile correctly on my system.

Regarding XMMS-Player: well, this one could well be a possible solution for my problems here. But I don't know what to do with these instructions from the official site:
XmmsMPlayer is my attempt at an XMMS Input Plugin that allows you to play all MPlayer supported files in xmms. You'll need MPlayer properly installed and in the PATH. Also, you should have a pretty recent release of MPlayer. To be specific, it should recognise the -identify option.
---
Now, what does "in the PATH" mean? Sorry, I am a bit clueless here...

xmms-aac didn't install correctly, told me about the missing faad. But things start go get complicated, since I already have a faad.rpm installed so I don't know which one xmms-aac is missing...

im having a simillar problem except that it is with Gtkpod it refuses to believe that faad is installed so I can't compile aac support which I need if I am going to piggy back my playlists from my Ipod into XMMS. Is it possible to run Foobar2k in wine with Fedora 2 or test 2?

you could use hymn to remove the protection from the AAC file, then convert the mp4 to Ogg

I would do xmms-aac. XMMS has add directory and is much like Winamp.
Run
Code:
yum install xmms-aac
after reading the FAQ about installing software.
xmms-aac, faad2, and even gtkpod are available at freshrpms, so a yum install should work.
