No suitable decoder module for fourcc XVID
I use Fedora 10.
Whenever i try to open an avi file with VLC player I get the error 'No suitable decoder module for fourcc XVID'.
How can I remove this error?

I have fond out that mplayer also gives an error while playing avi files: No xvid mpeg-4 decoder plugin found.
In both cases, vlc and mplayer, i can hear the sound of movie being played out but not the video.
Any help?

Hi if you use autoten to install all the codecs you should be able to play all most media, avi's etc.. (pick most codecs option)

you need ffmpeg-libs from rpmfusion:
Code:
su -c 'yum install ffmpeg-libs'
vlc --reset-plugins-cache

Try smplayer or xine/kaffeine, install xine-lib-extras and xine-lib-extras-freeworld
If it still won't play then your video isn't encoded properly or with a recognised codec (the fourcc is just a label). Encode using standard tools (if it's a download, then tough luck)

Thanks Godel. smplayer worked fine for me. xine was already there but could not play the files.
Thanks once again.
