iptables on Fedora 10

Just installed Fedora 10 and am wondering about iptables. I had ip6tables on and I removed it. When browsing the modules for iptables.......I can find iptables_nat and iptables_mangle, but I cannot find iptables_filter or ip_tables. Any reasoning for this?

huh ?! I've always used iptables and all I got is only one command which is iptables. Doing iptables -L shows the OUTPUT, INPUT and FORWARD chains and doing iptables -t nat -L shows the POSTROUTING, PREROUTING and OUTPUT chains.

I'm trying to write a custom iptables script and can't find those modules to be able to load (ip_tables, iptable_filter).

wow it's been along time. I know that you now load the modules through /etc/sysconfig/iptables/iptables-config (show's how long it's been for me) and I can lsmod |grep *someloadedmodulesnames* but like you I can't locate a list of modules (iptables, netfilter) shipped with fedora nor guess a package name.

For F10, in the /boot folder there are some config-(kernel version number) files and when I looked in the file I see

CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES=y

which means they are compiling some of the iptables modules into the kernel instead of as loadable modules. If it was a loadable module it would be

CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES=m

So the missing modules are really just built-into the kernel and are always available, you don't have to load them.
