kernel-2.6.8-1.521 uninstall problem

I have erased all the previous kernel versions so i only have the 2.6.8 kernel
When i try to install anothe i have a message a newer version is allready install
i try manually with the rpm kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2.i686.rpm but i have an error message that says kernel -module-nvidia requares kernel 2.6.8 kernel, and when i try to uninstall the nvidia kernel-module is needed by nvidia glx,
So i wan't to install a previous version of a kernel anybody has an idea ???

Hey rapaneli,

You can force the install by doing this:

rpm -iv kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2.i686.rpm --force

Don't forget to uninstall the nvidia drivers by doing this:

nvidia-installer --uninstall

edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf back to default or X won't load:

Driver "nv"

boot the kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2
and install the nvidia again.

Nvidia readme.txt:

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li...111/README.txt

Kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2:

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...pdates/2/i386/

It is a good habit to keep a second kernel in GRUB, for this kind of situations.

Good luck! Any questions, just post them!

Tashiro

it is better not to force, but to use the --oldpackage parameter, when using rpm so e.g.
rpm -ihv --oldpackage kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2.i686.rpm

It seems that livna.org does'n include drivers for kernel-2.6.7-1.494.2.2 so i need to install kernel source in order to install the nvidia-sh drivers, but how i install kernel source (generally source packages)

in most cases :
Code:
yum install kernel-sourcecode
