go to preferences and change the resolution to 640x480 or 800x600

The next release of cheese will choose the best resolution which gives at least 20fps.

Try UCview for comparison.

800x600 is not available, with 640x480 smearing stopped. Add to this picture upside yet, have to use a filter!
