XSane crashes immediately

I'm trying to get my hp psc 2175 all in one to work. sane-find-scanner finds the usb scanner, but scanimage -L produces a segmentation fault. When I go to run XSane, a window flashes and closes before I have time to read it. Trying to run XSane as root gives me the warning about doing so, and afterwards produces the same result. I have downloaded several other scanning utilities (like the sane-frontends package and the gnome-scanner), and they just don't launch.

I would go to sourceforge and download the hplip. I found similar issues with the supplied packages.

Then, follow their installation instructions.

It seems to work a great deal better--I was getting something similar, then, tried the hplip packages from source forge, and now, everything works a treat.

That's two of us. (Actually, in one case, it was with CentOS, a version 1.x something, vs. 3.whatever)
