Question Cloning Fedora VM

I'm ordering a refurbed Thinkpad but will not receive it for 2 or 3 weeks. I'm wondering if it would be possible to setup F11 in a VM, then transfer the VM to my "new" Thinkpad once it arrives.

Has anyone ever done this? Easily done or is it a pain?

It is possible (I''ve done it with windows using linux live cd and dd), but wouldn't bother personally. If you make any changes to files in /etc you can either keep notes and make the same changes when you install your think pad, or make a backup of the files and move them over to the laptop when it arrives. Your /home directory can be copied over in its entirety. You might also want to keep notes on what software you install.
