Unhappy Partitioning question, with pictures!

Hi there

I'm trying to follow this dual booting guide and I've reached the stage where I need to make room for the partition that will hold Windows.

This is the page in the guide I mean

My hard drive is partitioned differently to the guide and so now I'm stuck.

Here's what my hard drive partitions look like at the moment

I want to leave about 20GB available to Fedora, and give the rest (about 60GB) to windows.

Can anyone suggest what I need to do please?

Thanks

it is better if you first use any partition manager in win to partition your disk as required i.e space and file system. But before that it is a good idea to defragment your disk. hope this helps

Use Gparted Live to partition your hard drive, creating two partition:

first: 60 GB for windows (formatted ntfs)
second: space not allocated (free) for Fedora

Install before windows on first partition, then install Fedora on second partition with defaut method (it's more simple).

Saggiter's got the right answer for you. Undo what you've done so far and set it up as he describes.

I understand that it may be easier/better/faster to put windows on first, but for the purposes of this thread, lets assume I can't

Can anyone suggest how to solve my original problem please?

Can I just delete the /dev/sda2 partition and then resize the /dev/sda1 (see pic from original post).

"Can I just delete the /dev/sda2 partition and then resize the /dev/sda1"

No, /dev/sda2 is your lvm partition and contains inside that your root and maybe swap partitions. The problem is the guide you followed does not use logical volume management, which is much harder to deal with when you want to shrink it. Gparted can't handle that task. You will need an lvm expert or search for the (long) threads here on how to shrink it.

You also said to install windows first, and I can't do that. I've already got Fedora on the drive partitioned as shown in the picture

Excuse me, but was not written that Fedora was already installed. In this case my method is not valid.
