Java In Mozilla
I'm having trouble getting the JRE working in mozilla 1.7.3, and I've placed the shortcut in my plugins directory, and enabled java in preferences and in the kde control panel...... whats next?

You should read the fedora faq. I hope you installed java via yum.

I've got Mozilla 1.7.3 here on FC2. I just installed sun's rpm extractable for jre-1.5.0-fcs. I set the symbolic link in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins "libjavaplugin_oji.so" to point to the new link target /usr/java/j2re1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so. It's not working. Mozilla doesn't find the plugin. I'll file a bug soon.

Guipotato, if I read the instructions at Sun right, you might want to try this:
ln -s /usr/jave/j2re1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Nope, AFAIR, java is not FOSS. You should visit slashdot. Flashplayer definitely will not be bundled with fedora. Fedora is 100% FOSS distro. You will have to install your proprietary software on your own.

As for java and flash and mplayer, I got them to work by just doing a 'yum install mozilla-j2re flash mplayer mplayerplug-in' after adding the appropriate lines in yum.conf. I use the version of Mozilla that came with FC2 though (1.6).

jre-1.4 (sun) worked with mozilla 1.7.3 . Most of you probably use that. The plugin directory /ns610-gcc32/ must be for a previous version. The mozilla is compiled with gcc version 3.3.3. I'm still puzzled by this.
Yep Java is not FOSS and the relationship with Sun and Redhat is bizarrely heated at the moment... from the little i've read in news.
