Fedora 13 Important Links
Hi,
While we are waiting on the official release of Fedora 12 tomorrow, a lot of work has already been going on for months in the Fedora 13 branch. Rawhide now points to Fedora 13 as of today and we welcome you to participate in the development and launch of Fedora 13 in April 2010
Before you jump in, I highly recommend that you take a few minutes and read
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/13/Schedule
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/13/FeatureList
I will keep this post updated on any other items of interest going forward. Thank you.

How far down the line would the likes of rpmfusion start releasing packages for rawhide?

Hi,
Unlikely since Python 3 is incompatible with Python and Fedora is a extensive Python user.

@Jongi, Rawhide is the current development branch leading to Fedora 13. RPM Fusion already has been announced for Rawhide and Fedora 12.

So fedora is going to stay with intermediary python until old python is gone enough to switch to exclusive usage of python 3?

Rahul .. if Fedora is Python extensive distro why doesnt fedora be the first distro to offer it as Default in F13? Python3 is still Python just newer technology which im sure Fedora likes to push from time to time.

"Rahul .. if Fedora is Python extensive distro why doesnt fedora be the first distro to offer it as Default in F13?"
Because it isn't realistic or feasible considering the amount of programs that will break. Many upstream developers aren't looking to move over anytime soon. Even a basic print statement is different from Python 3 compared to Python 2. It is similar for Perl 6 that Fedora 12 include. Python 3 and Python 2 are different enough to be considered as separate languages. They both will exist in parallel for many many years.

Ok. I was going to stay out of it cause I know python breaking will be the biggest bane of preupgrade. So I was going to avoid any preupgrading and just get to the end game. But appears there won't be an end game switchover for quite some time.

Hi,
The way it is being packaged, Python 3 won't interfere with the base Python 2 installation. Preupgrade will just continue use Python 2 just like yum, Anaconda etc
