Arrow Cannot install Skype in Fedora 12 KDE

I'm trying to install Skype in Fedora 12 KDE which I just installed recently. I tried downloading skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm and double-clicking on the .RPM and letting KPackageManager handle it but that returned and "unknown error". So I tried to follow the steps found here : http://fedorasolved.org/multimedia-solutions/installing-skype

When I tried #yum install skype after running I got the following error message:
Code:
Total download size: 14 M
Is this ok [y/N]: Y
Downloading Packages:
Setting up and reading Presto delta metadata
Processing delta metadata
Package(s) data still to download: 14 M

I am fairly new to Fedora and haven't used KDE in a long time. I am fairly comfortable with the command line and have been using Linux for a few years I just haven't used Fedora for any length of time.

I finally got it installed by running the rpm command. Now it's working 3/4... I can see and hear the other person, and he can hear me but my video isn't working for capturing me.

Is your webcam working with other applications? You can try cheese if you have no other webcam applications installed.

Before this current installation, I was running Fedora 12 with Gnome and it did work with Cheese but not Skype. Actually, my Ubuntu and my Windows XP installations both work with the webcam applications but not with Skype.

Currently I am running KDE, and unfortunately I haven't found a Cheese-equivalent for KDE yet. Kopete definitely does not like my webcam (never has, and as of last night still doesn't). When I go to the video setup section the whole program freezes on me and the screen doesn't refresh properly (open windows on top, minimize or close the window and it is still visible where it overlayed Kopete).

I'm just glad I figured out I had to set the Input source to the webcam to get the Mic working!

Are you using the Nvidia drivers? Because in the release notes there were some warnings that they didn't play nice with KDE in some regard. Maybe this is a symptom of that.

Well I have never had problems with video, it's always been sound that Skype has been tricky with (until the new release). If you have VLC installed, you can use that to test your webcam. It's under Media->Open Capture Device.

I didn't know about VLC, thanks! I doubt it has the screen capture option like Cheese? I'm surprised nobody has made a Cheese(y?) version for KDE yet. Sometimes I wish I was a real programmer.

The system with the Nvidia card has not run KDE, only Gnome and Windows. My laptop is running F12-KDE and has Intel.

Is it resolved ?

I am having the same problem. Skype audio works perfect, video works in every other application except skype.

I tried a suggested workaround :
env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

but then I get the below error :
X Error, request 132, minor 18, error code 8 BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
X Error, request 132, minor 18, error code 8 BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
X Error, request 132, minor 18, error code 8 BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
X Error, request 132, minor 18, error code 8 BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
X Error, request 132, minor 18, error code 8 BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)

Please help.
