internet connection loss

This is my setup, a dual boot FDC2 - RH9 web servers with both identical configurations ie Apache, Jakarta Tomcat, PHP , MySQL-standard, perl.CGI. Httpd is configured with all mods. The server is on the DMZ of a Smoothwall 2.0 Firewall. Everything works as far as LAN & WAN connectivity on all systems on the network.
My problem is with the FDC2 web server. If for some reason I need to log on locally and then log off again, I loose the internet connection on that machine, no matter if I do a systen network restart or run setup or what-ever. This does not happen with the RH9 os. The only solution I have found is to restart the machine, where I notice this message,
Quote:
NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out
As I said, this does not happen on the RH9 server setup so that eliminates any hardware possibilities and being they are the same machine, it also eliminates any configuration problems on the Smothwall firewall. Keep in mind that my web server still works and the web content is accessable for all on the LAN during these disconects so my nic seems to be functioning as well. Thanks.
