What packages are in RPMFusion (broken FAQ!)

I'm trying to answer the question
"What distributions support package (RPM) 'x'"?
YES, I KNOW IT"S A FAQ AT RPMFUSION:
http://rpmfusion.org/FAQ#head-2ec5c8...9ac8f43e7aec29
"What packages are available from RPM Fusion?
See PackageList. "

When I click on the "answer" I go to a page that DOES NOT answer the question:
http://rpmfusion.org/PackageList

There's a search window at the top of every page on RPMFusion, but
it does NOT allow searching by package name. Strange, almost shocking,
but true. So, for example, if I try searching for "kdebase", it returns no
matches.

The backstory: I'm running FC10 and perfectly happy. But, I need a video editor
and am searching distributions for specific RPMS to see if the packages exist --
if so, I'll upgrade. I can BROWSE every possible distribution (FC10/FC11/FC12 x
release/update x free/non-free x etc), but that's a lot of browsing.

I'd love to enter into the search window a package name and have it give me
a list of distributions containing matching packages.....

Am I the only one who thinks searching for packages would be useful?

Thanks,
Steve

There's a site here:

http://rpm.pbone.net/

That might help.

Another way:

Install yumex,

run yumex, go to the repository page and uncheck all the repos except the rpmfusion ones.
and press refresh
Then go to the packages page, check "available" and use the search tool to search the available rpmfusion packages.

You could just use yum. yum list <packagename>. There are a host of yum command line options available.
Code:
[glenn@leonardo ~>$ yum list xine*
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, presto, refresh-packagekit
Installed Packages
xine-lib.i686 1.1.16.3-4.fc12 @fedora

Code:
[glenn@leonardo ~>$ yum list xine* | grep rpm*
xine.i586 0.99.5-6.fc11 rpmfusion-free
xine-lib-extras-freeworld.i686 1.1.16.3-2.fc12 rpmfusion-free
Hope this is helpful.

How about going here http://rpmfusion.org/, scrolling down and use the browse feature?

OK. Let me try the question again.

I want to know WHAT DISTRIBUTIONS have, say, kdenlive.

Yum, and yumex (which is a cool tool, thanks, didn't know about that one) tell me
what's available for FC10 - and ONLY FC10 (which is what I'm running).
They don't tell me squat about what's in FC11 or FC12.
In particular, they don't help me answer the question:
Which distribution (if any) should I install to get kdenlive.

To put it differently, I don't want a list of packages sorted by distribution.
I want a list of distributions sorted by package.

Yes, I can browse individual distributions, but there's a lot to check
FC10, 11, 12.-- Source, i386, x86_64 --- Free & non-free. Updates and release.
That's a lot of combinations to check.

http://rpm.pbone.net
comes the closest, but a couple of quick spot checks suggest it's not very accurate.

Again, the real point is that the search feature on the top of the page ought to support
searching for packages.

Thanks,
Steve

EDIT: Note that the default search is Debian only - click on "Distributions => All" to get all results. Note also that 3rd-party repos are not included in these results - only the base distro package offerings.

The page on RPM Fusion's FAQ for the package list is empty.
http://rpmfusion.org/PackageList

You can find the info from the links in the chart here, but you have to jump around a bit.

To answer your question re. kdenlive it is available for F12 and F11 from rpmfusion-free.

On the rpmfusion site you can go to the bottom of the page and browse the available packages per distro and arch but there doesn't seem to be any way to search there except alphabetically.

Or possibly:

Code:
yum provides */kdenlive
That works even if the package is part of a super-package.

That is, it will find the text editor 'kate' even though it is part of the larger package 'kdesdk'

Yes
That was my main point: That the FAQ entry for "What packages do we have?"
is broken
The other point being that there's a search box at the top right corner of every RPMFusion
page, which allows you to search the website, but not for something useful, like a specific
package. If I'm at RPMFusion, I'm probably looking for a package, why can't I easily
search for one?

As several have pointed out, the only solution seems to be to search in each distribution
individually.

All of the yum tools fail because (AFAIK) they only search within the distribution you're running.
So, for example, "yum search kdenlive" and "yum provides */kdenlive" return NOTHING for me,
because I'm running FC10. My yum won't search FC11 and FC12.

http://www.telemedia.ch/cgi-bin/whohas.wh
Has the right idea, but when I try and search for obvious things like "kdebase" or
even "kernel" in Fedora, it returns no matches.
Perhaps I'm using it wrong, but it seems straightforward.

Thanks for all the replies.
BTW, is there a more focused forum for this? It's really a specific comment about
the RPM Fusion website, not a general Fedora question.

Steve

No, but you can post to one of the RPMFusion mailing lists: http://lists.rpmfusion.org/mailman/listinfo

Hello zzybaloobah

whohas is also a command line program available for install from the Fedora repositories.

Trying it yesterday and this morning even for 'kdebase' returns no results at all.

I wonder if that may be because a part of the Fedora infrastructure has been down over the weekend for relocation.

There is another way to search for RPMFUSION's files. Go to one of the mirrors directly and use the search feature in your browser or just scroll down the page (list is alphabetical, but upper-case letter named RPM's are listed before lower-case named RPM's). I have used this method to search various mirrors for specific packages. You can navigate back and forth by clicking on the Parent Directory folder at the top or on one of the Subdirectory folders.

Note in your example, kdebase does not appear to be in RPMFUSION's repository. This is likely because it is already included in Fedora's repositories. Nothing to add from RPMFUSION's perspective.

Here is a list of RPMFUSION's mirrors.
http://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/mm/publiclist/

Here is one of RPMFUSION's file directories (as an example).
http://mirror.liberty.edu/pub/rpmfus...thing/i386/os/

Here is a list of Fedora's mirrors (not RPMFUSION).
