Mouse Input/IM settings problem ?- Fedora 12 on IBM Thinkpad -

Suddenly I started to have severe problems with Fedora 12 installation on my IBM Thinkpad R52 laptop. In the login screen, the moment I touch the trackpoint or trackpad a user (in my case guest) is chosen. The password box is continuously flickering. Then with great difficulty, I choose my login Id and wait for the password box flicker to stop; it seems like Fedora 12 is continuously detecting a mouse click.

After I login several instances of file manager application are started (may have to do with where the mouse cursor was positioned on the desktop and the multiple left clicks may have translated to multiple double clicks and launched the application). The desktop is virtually unusable.

I have tried rebooting many times, but that has not helped.

I read on the forums that it could be a imsettings/IBUS problem. But I was not able to figure out how to fix it.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Right now, I cannot use the laptop.

I had a problem different problem with Fedora 11; it was not detecting the left mouse click even when it occurred. After a while it seemed like it was OK. But this problem was occasional.

The .imsettings.log file has the following messages

I also updated ibus with a yum install ibus

That did not help

It seems that I have a similar problem with a ThinkPad T60. The pointing device seems to continously perform left clicks, but I am actually not even touching the machine. This doesn't seem to be a problem restricted to Fedora, I had the same issue in Debian Lenny (which has much older software). Since I could not find posts about similar problems in the web, I am currently thinking that something is wrong with my hardware.
I found a temporary workaround by disabling the TrackPoint in the BIOS, leaving only the TouchPad active. Note that disabling the TouchPad did not solve my problem.

I have the same problem using either the trackpoint or the trackpad. Also, Windows XP ran fine on the laptop till quite recently. But what about the imsettings problem?
