is there a way to test ATI graphic card?

Hi,

Does anyone know how to test an ATI graphic card/the driver. I am currently experiencing desktop lock up when opening random application. E.g.
  • when opening VLC
  • when running Gimp
  • when running Adobe AIR application

I have tested my memory and it seems like there is no problem with them. I just recently looked at /var/log/messages and found some weird message which I think may be an issue with fglrx driver

Code:
Mar 19 08:24:22 localhost kernel: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#3 stuck for 61s! [RDS:4726]

  • ATI Radeon HD2600
  • Running 2 screens with resolution 1920x1200, 1680x1050

NOTE: I haven't updated my system for months since it was the most stable configuration I had but the last 3 days it had been freezing at random application

I would try to solve it like this. Seeing as how it was previously stable and you haven't updated any software then the problem is some physical electrical hardware or power problem. First, I would remove the video card, clean the edge connector with a big pink pencil eraser, then reinstall. If that doesn't solve it, check power supply connectors. If that doesn't solve it I would try the card in another computer, or another card in your computer. Also try another power supply.

Re: is there a way to test ATI graphic card?

Hi thanks for answering JEO. I just recently clean up the fan and the video card, unfortunately my system crashes again even though the last 1 week it had been quite good.

Unfortunately that suggestion is not feasible since I don't have other computer with PCI express and I don't really trust the other power supply since it is quite old (4-5 years) older than mine.

I may just have to upgrade my system to Fedora 12, it maybe because one of the bug exist with the current configuration.
