Intel 5100 Wireless Card not detected

I have Dell 1537 laptop having Intel 5100 wireless card. It is not supported by Fedora 9. I have tried downloading the driver iwlwifi-5000-ucode-8.24.2.12.tgz from http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/?n=Downloads and copied it to folder /lib/firmware and rebooted the machine. But still it is not detected by the system. Is there any solution to this problem .

Try

yum install iwl5{000,150}-firmware

If not available, backup data and install F12

The wifi adapter got installed. But the Wifi light on the laptop keeps on blinking when it is connected to some network. Also the network is quite low even though the router and laptop are within same room.
