How to create a pdf file in A3 format from two sheets in A4 format?

Hello there!
In my school we want to print a magazine but we have problem with the format of the files. We need to create a sheet in A3 format from two sheets in A4 format. I was reading about the pdftk library but it doesn't do what i need. Any other suggestion?

Thanks in advance!

pdf in A3 landscape format from 2 sheets A4 portrait? Help with multivalent!!

Hi david and thank you for your help. But I have problems with some files in pdf format.
Openoffice draw is great but it's not enough.
Sometimes when I open a pdf file with openoficce draw it has changed the format!! or the pictures have disappeared!!

I have read about Multivalent (A Java library). This is what i need:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4...-pdf-documents.

But i have the problem of Java. Always I have this error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: tool/pdf/Impose
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: tool.pdf.Impose
(...)
Could not find the main class: tool.pdf.Impose. Program will exit.

I have export the CLASSPATH variable. I have java installed in my computer but i can't execute a command from Multavalent.jar.

Has anybody used the Multivalent library in Fedora? Please help me!

[SOLVED] How to create a pdf file in A3 format from two sheets in A4 format?

I got the solution after a lot of reading and tests!!

The problem is that the version in sourceforge Multivalent20091027.jar doesn't work.

You need a prior version. You can download it from here: http://omega.enstb.org/yannis/cours/phpavance/.

With that version i have no problem and i can create a pdf in format A3 landscape from 2 pdf files in format A4 portrait with the command:

Code:
java -cp Multivalent.jar tool.pdf.Impose -dim 2x1 -verbose -paper-size "42.2x29.9cm" -layout "1,2" OutputFile.pdf
where OutputFile.pdf contains the 2 sheets in A4 format!!
