F13 RC2 RANDR failure: 8 (extension base 160)

Hi,

Tonight I installed F13 RC2 from the Live CD and began configuring it the way I have F12 set up. Basically, that means I disable nouveau in order to use nv for video. I do that because suspend/resume doesn't work with nouveau on my machine and and it does work with nv. nv works well enough for me, and I want suspend to work, so that's what I do.

Compared to F12, I'm seeing 2 differences. One is that my GUI comes up looking awful. It seems to be in a video mode with a 43Hz refresh. I went into System/Preferences/Monitors and changed it to 76, and that fixed it. It's not a big deal, but I now see that the login screen always comes up like that, and then changes to the good mode afterward. So, while it doesn't seem to hurt anything, I am wondering why it does that now.

The second change is that I'm getting nasty messages like the following in Xorg.0.log.

RANDR failure: 8 (extension base 160)

Again, it doesn't seem to upset anything, but I'm just curious what might be causing it.

If anyone has an idea about either one, I'd like to hear it. Thanks!

did you actually test suspend with nouveau in f13? that code has changed entirely from f12. we can't really support nv, as it's an obfuscated driver and no-one outside NVIDIA has a clue how it works. We just ship it, and you get what you get.

Adam - Yes, I tested it with nouveau and it just hangs on resume. The card in this machine is an NV5 (nvidia Riva TNT2), which I believe has unresolved issues with resume. I have it working with nv, so that's what I'll use until I can get something else.

I know nv isn't supported by you guys, and I was just thinking that maybe it could be due to something new in Xorg that could be turned off. So, I just wanted to ask in case someone knew about it.
