FingerPrint Reader issue.

Hi Guys,

Ive got the fingerprint reader on my IBM R61 working.

I goto gnome-about-me and enable it.
I then swipe my finger and it reads and accepts it.

However. It doesnt seem to work afterwards ( it doesnt seem to match my finger )

So it always says auth fail. However i obviously works as it read my print in.

Any ideas?

Thanks
G

Re: FingerPrint Reader issue.

So you tested that your fingerprint reader in general works. Did you link/bind your fingerprint to your user account? Since I do not know what particular programs you use, its hard to be more specific. Here is just one guide for ThinkPads, which may help:

Re: FingerPrint Reader issue.

I simply downloaded these pam- packages as stated on the fedora wiki.

I then went to gnome-about-me and clicked, Enable finger print.

I then scanned my fingerprint, ( it said ok ) then whenever it asks for my print ( ie: on login ) it doesn't recognise it.

I deleted and re-did it a few times, Its almost like it reads it in, but cant understand its own data.

Re: FingerPrint Reader issue.

Scanning a fingerprint can be a difficult thing. I had a fingerprint reader activated on an OpenSuse installation for some time. The thing is that it sometimes takes several attempts until the reader works. You have to be very careful how you wipe your finger over the reader and it even matters how dry your finger is (my experience is that if it is too dry, the reader is unable to identify it).
