List of compatible wifi cards / chipsets?

Hello to all.

Just installed FC13 on old laptop, (had FC11). Wifi card is recognized, but won't work. Instead of messing with ndiswrapper, etc., I am looking for a list of compatible cards or chipsets for cards that work with FC13. Anyone know where I can find such a thing? Or, can anyone recommend a specific card that works right out of the box with FC13? Need a cardbus card, PCI, not a USB.

lspci:
0d:00.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

Thanks,
Doug

I believe that part should use the rt61pci.ko driver, but yo uneed to install the firmware if it's not.
Try (as root)
yum install rt61pci-firmware.noarch
reboot

Then try ifconfig -a after the reboot and look for the interface.

If that fails, then try
modprobe rt61pci
and report the result.

Also retry the lspci like ...
lspci -nnk
and this will show the vendor IDs and the driver (if any).

A possible source and answer to your original question can be found here.

But hopefully you get it working with Steve a's suggestions.

Thanks to both of you for the replies. It is now working after installing the proper driver.

I appreciate all the help this forum has given me over the years. It's people like the two of you that make it all worth the effort.

Thanks again.

Amazing how things have changed... used to be that you were lucky to get a wifi device that could work at all. Then there was the ndiswrapper, which was a total nightmare of loading windoze drivers in linux. Now, pretty much everything work. Worst case tends to be missing proprietary firmware.
