RIGHT ARROW + INSERT accidental keypress stops mouse buttons from working?

Here's a weird one. Once in a while I inadvertantly hit the key combination RIGHT-ARROW + INSERT on my keyboard while editing in Geany. This stops my mouse buttons from working and I have to kill xorg. Anyone heard of this before or how to fix it? I know I know, I should stop hitting those keys by accident, but it seems to happen at least once a day! This is on Fedora 12.

Thanks

I presume this is the Insert on the numeric keypad? If you don't mind using the other Insert (if you have it) in the editing section, you could turn the key into one that is (probably) harmless:

xmodmap -e "keycode 90 = Pause"

As for the actually error, that's a new one on me. Does it only happen in Geany? What is the offending key called when you test it with xev — KP_Insert?

Re: RIGHT ARROW + INSERT accidental keypress stops mouse buttons from working?

I have the same scenario, except, i don't even have to hit a specific key combination. My nummeric keypad doesn't want to work (the numbers) no more and when i try using the keypad only the left mouse button don't work, the right button does still work. Then i have to kill X aswell.
I found the answer to fixing the keypad issue. System > Preferences > Keyboard under mouse keys uncheck the box "Pointer can be controlled by using keypad"

Great catch takkies,

I have been receiving complaints from a family member with the same symptoms you are experiencing. Unchecking "Pointer can be controlled by using keypad" has resolved the issues.

Thanks for the post/fix.

Ky

Thanks for the replies guys and thanks for this takkies. I would never have thought of this. I've unchecked that option and hopefully that will fix it. Thanks

You should file a bug report about this. The mouse buttons should still work even if you have mousekeys activated.
