Re: flash movies no full screen
This has been discussed before. Like you said, it's a problem with Desktop Effects. I can suggest a couple of workarounds you can use to maximize the video screen if you'd like.
Only for YouTube though...
1. Get greasemonkey addon for FF and download the YouTube Enhancer Script. It will allow you to set the video size. There's a maximize option which fills your entire browser window. So if you use that in combination with FF in fullscreen mode, it is almost as good.
2. Someone else suggested this one. If your video link is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrwjnqEP66U
Remove the "watch?" and replace the = with / as:
http://www.youtube.com/v/VrwjnqEP66U
You'll only get the video which fills your FF screen. This in combination with Fullscreen mode should do.
Hope that helps.

Re: flash movies no full screen
Hello
you can ditch adobe flash on youtube, vimeo and blip.tv using this excellent (fairly) new firefox addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161869/ all you need is the gecko-mediaplyer plugin

Re: flash movies no full screen
Also, you might want to disable hardware acceleration in flash by right-clicking in the flash window > preferences. It solved the problem for me. This is only an issue for me with intel-based video hardware.
