F14 XFCE Spin - Panel locked.

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, but not to RedHat/Fedora. In fact I tend to try and solve my problems by myself, but I'm stuck here.

I've installed the Xfce spin of Fedora 14 (64).
The Panel (or main task bar) has several icons by default, and as most people, I like to add/remove and move the different items and shortcuts.
I can add and remove, however moving items I cannot.
When I right-click and select 'Move', the Panel turns gray, in fact it's completely grayed out, like locked. For info, it was absolutely fine in F13.

It's probably me being stupid, and I apologies in advance for that, but does anyone know how to unlock it?

Thanks!
Madiran

Re: F14 XFCE Spin - Panel locked.

Just tried it and it seems it's supposed to be this way, icons are grayed out but I can move them normally. Did you try clicking a new location or did you stop when you saw the panel turns gray?

I found some problems, but they are related to certain applets (for example, it seems impossible to place anything near an activator when moving it), I'm not sure if they have anything to do with panel turning gray.

Re: F14 XFCE Spin - Panel locked.

I have been using XFCE exclusively since Fedora 9. To me, it's definitely behaving differently this time. I noticed the same thing described here. I wish it worked the old way, but here is what I did to rearrange some icons in the panel anyway. I added an empty space separator next to a group of icons that I wanted to shuffle around. Then by accident, I noticed that I could move icons next to the empty space separator. You'll know it's going to work when you see the vertical black line appear under the cursor when it arrives there. Moving another icon to that same spot makes the previous icon scoot over to make room for the next one. By thinking about the order in which I moved icons to that spot, I could control what ended up where. When it was done, I removed the empty space separator. So I got what I wanted, but I think the thing is busted. I didn't file a bug report yet because nobody else seemed to notice it until this thread. I thought it could be related to the way I install it (starting from minimal). But now I'm more sure it's busted.

Re: F14 XFCE Spin - Panel locked.

Thanks Stoat, I thought it was just me.
I noticed the same thing about the empty space separator, and that's a good enough workaround for me. It's not as if we had to shuffle icons & items every day...
Thanks a lot
