nVidia GeForce 9800 GT woes (continued)

I had previously posted that I could not get nvidia drivers working (following leigh123linux's how-to) with a F14 installation. I had gone through various layers of tests, installs, uninstalls, etc. and ended up with nothing. (Nothing being a system that cannot start X and has to be forced to the command line.) I then decided to back up to F13 to see if there was an OS version difference, but alas it was not to be. I see the same problem regardless of the version. I also tried a number (6) of different versions of the proprietary nVidia drivers and I still have a non-working nVidia driver. My assumption is that either the next kernel update or the next nVidia driver update will fix the problem.

Has anyone gotten a GeForce 9800 GT working recently? If so, how? Are there known issues that I should be aware of or that can be worked around?

Any tips are truly appreciated.

-Kirk

Any smolt profile ? Here's mine; no use but shows my 9500GT is Okay apart from a few queer log out's from KDE!

I see the 9800 is listed with a combination of working, needing additional drivers, not working. I'm not exactly sure how to use this information.

Gotcha. Thanks for that info - it could come in handy for other cards.

Yeah, I'm stuck on this one. I assume there are other nVidia cards out there that are working fine given no huge outcry from the community.

Given that I'm hoping to use this as a MythTV box, is there a recommended alternative card that I might try?

Just in case you hadn't seen this, leigh123linux has a perennial sticky how-to regarding nvidia installation http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=204752

Oops -- his sticky only specifically addresses previous generation cards. Sorry.

FFUser - yes, I've followed leigh's how-to to the letter (I'll update my original post). Sadly, the 9800 still doesn't work.
