Humble Indie Bundle - Braid

I just bought the Humble Indie Bundle and I have just tested Braid so far, but I can't get it to work. Starting it from the commandline gives the following error:
Code:
[martin@Alcor braid]$./braid
Game Startup Error: Unable to set up graphics.
Reason: Missing required OpenGL extension.

To help fix this problem make sure you are running the newest version of your video drivers.
Lastly, you could try running this game with the -windowed command-line option
I'm using the Nouveau driver, and some forums says that I should enable S3TC compression in driconf, but I can't find that option. I'm running F14 64-bit.

I someone has a clue I would be grateful for some help

Assuming that the Nouveau driver doesn't support OpenGL, I'd suggest that you need to switch to the NVidia driver.

Re: Humble Indie Bundle - Braid

I couldn't run braid either on 64 bit Fedora 14. After installing the nvidia-drivers from rpm-fusion, I still got the same error.

Then I noticed the folllowing post on the Icculus-bugzilla:

for 64 bits users who have s3tc on glxinfo but the game give this bug: install
the 32 bit version of ur driver(lib32-nvidia-utils for me on arch linux)
I couldn't find lib32-nvidia-utils on Fedora, but installing the package xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs did make the game work!

If just installing xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs makes it work then you don't need to do anything else, but it still fails then you can try installing xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i386 which will install the 32-bit proprietary nVidia libraries (RPM Fusion required).

Re: Humble Indie Bundle - Braid

Oops... that is what I meant. I installed the i686 version. (xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686) Small copy-n-paste mistake....

According the Humble-Indie-bundle-twitter-account there is a new build of braid:

The new Mac and Linux Braid builds are now live on http://www.humblebundle.com
Changelog:
Quote:
Changes since original build:
- Added support for systems without S3TC support.
- Added support for PowerPC and 64-bit Intel Macs.
- Added support for amd64 Linux systems.
- Possibly fixed never-ending black screen that some Mac players experienced.
- Now attempts to choose correct language at startup, if a translation is available, on both Mac and Linux.
- Added notes on useful command line options to Linux README.
Now it works without installing additional libraries!

Re: Humble Indie Bundle - Braid

The new build of Braid solves the problems for non-propitiatory drivers users and 64bit OSes.
Braid may still fail to load in fullscreen but works in the windowed mode. You can work around it by running Braid with braid -width X -height Y, with X*Y being your screen resolution.

Before the new build I though of installing the 3bit libraries and I asked in the forums about it. It might be helpful to someone, even if it's not for Braid.
