[SOLVED] internal microphone not working

trying to use the internal mic for skype, with no such luck. its an HP Pavilion dv-XXXX (<<i want to say 5000 or 6000, but it isnt in front of me ATM), restarting didnt help, and everything is updated (Fedora 14).

i think that about covers it..

It's probably muted. Open the terminal and start up the alsamixer:

alsamixer -c0 -Vcapture

Select the recording input device - choose between Mic and Front Mic to get sound in Skype. Use up and down arrows...

hey thanks, ill give that a shot. i went through the skype preferences and tried to select internal mic1/mic2 with no luck when i was troubleshooting myself, so ill give the command a try. and thanks for being gentle on an ignorant n00b -ill let you know how it goes.

LightDot, your advice worked. i went through the terminal and did what you said. i had to check the different mic settings, go back and do the test call bit for Skype, but i found what works. Thanks.
