Unable to create bootable cd from iso dl

I downloaded fedora14 iso and burned it straight to a cd but on reboot, it booted from my hd. My bios is set to boot from cd first.
Next I extracted the iso to a subdirectory and burned that to a cd, creating a boot disk using the img file in the [BOOT] directory. When I rebooted, I got a cursor in the top left corner of the screen and nothing else. What am I missing?

You shouldn't have "burned it straight to a cd" nor "extracted the iso to a subdirectory". You should burn the image that the ISO file contains to CD. You do that by looking around in your burning software for something like "burn image" or "copy image to CD" or "burn from disc image file". Something like that. Different apps say it different ways.

Problem solved and thank you. Did not know the difference between burn to disk and burn image to disk.

No worries. You are not the first one. It happens all the time. Matter of fact, I have to admit that it's not the most perfectly obvious thing to do.
