F16 Naming - Nominations Are Now Open - Robyn Bergeron
Hear ye, hear ye! Attention, all Fedora fans and release naming enthusiasts:
The time has come once again to choose the name for the next
release of Fedora. Potential names will be accepted for consideration
beginning March 3rd (in other words, NOW) through March 10.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Name_..._for_Fedora_16
Please note that you *must* follow the instructions and guidelines at
the page listed above if you want your name to be considered. For
instance, there must be an "is-a" link between the name Lovelock (from
Fedora 15) and the name you suggest. That link must be different than
previous links for Fedora release names. Also, we ask that you please
conduct the required searches for brand and trademark names that might
cause us problems.
Read the full guidelines at that page, where you can also find full
schedule details for the release naming process.
For those of you interested in reviewing the history of Fedora
release names, there is an appropriately named wiki page for doing so:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Histor..._release_names
Be fun. Be creative. Help pick out an awesome name for Fedora 16! I am
looking forward to your suggestions.
-Robyn

Hmmmm.
Two possibilities come immediately to mind:
1) Lovelock is a town in Nevada, and also the name of a Sci-fi book by Orson Scott card, in which the named "hero" yearns for freedom. So also is the (graphic) novel/movie "Serenity."
2) Lovelock (Speedway) is the name of a race track. So is Talledega.

Okay, I'll get it out of the way: "chastity belt". There, it's said. Now, let's get on to some decent names.

Ok. I'm game.
Let's see ...
...
Ok. If Lovelock is a chastity belt, then as I recall, Mrs. Emma Peel looked quite attractive wearing one. Therefore, " Avenger." <.. ..>

Lovelock, Laughlin, and Goddard are all towns in Nevada. Are we to discontinue a theme? How about Hawthorne, also in Nevada?

Stick with Nevada town names?! Yeesh! I hope not. I refuse to run a release named Gabbs, or Deeth Wells! Never much liked Hawthorne either. Always seemed like a fellow should really tiptoe around there. <.. ..>
Or Reno, for that matter. Which is, as they say, so close to Hell that you can see Sparks! <.. ..>

I should have clicked on the link. Maybe she knows James Lovelock, the inventer of the microwave oven? Or has used one? We could name it after her.

Re: F16 Naming - Nominations Are Now Open - Robyn Bergeron
What about Gaia?
James Lovelock is an independent scientist, environmentalist and futurologist who lives in Devon, England.
GAIA is the name of a theory formulated by Lovelock (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis) and states that the biosphere and the physical components of the Earth are closely integrated to form a complex interacting system, like Fedora is formed by many components that interacts...
But this doesn't follow the "is - so is" rule....
EDIT oopss... already added by someone in the meantime I was adding this post.... :-p
