my advice is to use the nvidia drivers that are in rpmfusion instead of trying to compile the driver off the nvidia site. Rpmfusion has done the compile for you and it's available in rpm format you install using yum.

If you are really going to use that driver, that first message is telling you that it MUST be installed via command line - the GUI can not be running. You need to boot to runlevel 3, for instance. I used to use such a driver - I had to reinstall EVERY time the kernel was updated. I was so glad when Fedora began including the nvidia drivers.
