KDE & Google Chrome

Ever since I gave up on Gnome 3 and made a fresh install of the KDE version, Google Chrome has been locking up on me. I've removed Chrome and all the tiny bits in .config and reinstalled and still have the problem. While I can't find anything in the logs pointing to the problem, it does seem to happen in iGoogle while trying to bring up Google Reader and/or the NY Times extensions. It dies before I can switch to the classic home screen, so I haven't experimented with removing the extensions or just bringing it up in classic yet.

Funny with the lack of KDE F15 discussion here, I just noticed, could it be that KDE is just performing that well? This is the only problem I've encountered so far. Anyone else seeing Chrome die in KDE? It was working fine in Gnome 3.

Re: KDE & Google Chrome

I installed from the last Alpha that was released, and, I've installed all updates. Hmmm, so you were getting lockups before the beta? Very interesting, guess I'll try another reinstall later. I wonder what the cause is? Firefox 4 is performing great, though I realize Google handles some things differently. I'm actually quite pleased with KDE 4.6.2.

i wouldnt install the Alpha, download an install the Beta RC2. i dunno what the cause is, but im getting a bit of a lockup wih Epiphany Browser, ( forgot to mention that ) but apart from that all is fine. only thing i can think of, have you ran a backtrace on Google Chrome to see where or how the lockups occur but yeah i have noticed that Google Chrome doesnt run so well in KDE myself.

P.S iv'e only used Epiphany on Twitter an it locks up if i scroll down to see all the tweets. doesnt happen with firefox.

Re: KDE & Google Chrome

Download of Beta RC2 is almost complete. Damn, and I just had KDE setup the way I like it. Heh, Main panel on the top and TaskBar and virtual windows on the bottom, hmmm, sound like Gnome 2? I'll do a little more experimenting before I do the reinstall and see if I can find anything.
I don't use Epiphany so I can't compare notes with you there, and I didn't think about a backtrace because it's not a fedora package, gdb needs debuginfo packages.

Edit: Just saw that I installed from the Beta TC1 iso issued on March 30th, wondering if the RC2 will make any difference. It may be worth a try, still deciding.

it maybe worth a try, i tend to remember there were issues with with TC1 which should be fixed in RC2

Re: KDE & Google Chrome

This is just a follow up to the Google Chrome using KDE 4.6.2 on F15 problem. I don't know where this problem fits. Since it's not a Fedora problem, or at least I don't think it is, I don't know where to file a bug report. I tried sending it to Google, but it failed through abrt, even though I checked the box that allowed sending error reports about Chrome. To me, I'm finding that FF4 can use the Google-Talk Plugin flawlessly, so, I don't really need Chrome any more, but would still like to find the reason. If anyone has a clue, I'd appreciate the help. When running google-chrome in the terminal, this is the result.

[GoinEasy9@fedora15kde32 ~]$ google-chrome
[0421/201504:ERROR:nss_util.cc(51)] Failed to create ~/.pki/nssdb directory.
^CHandling SIGINT.
Handling SIGINT.Successfully wrote to shutdown pipe, resetting signal handler.

Check failed: g_shutdown_pipe_write_fd != -1

This is the folder that holds the cert9.db and key4.db data.

The folder is already there, the error says it can't create it.

Name : google-talkplugin

Thanks in advance.

Re: KDE & Google Chrome

Chrome was failing before installation of Talk Plugin. Chat showed up on the left without contacts, and after addition of the plugin the contacts showed up. It's weird though, I thought cert9 and key4 db's were FF related, but, the error tries to create/open the folder that contains them. Why it doesn't see the .pki folder then fails trying to create it is the question. I'm still looking for that answer.
BTW - FF4 runs the video on the talk plugin really well. Since video on skype is not working, Google Talk with video is a great replacement.
