Screen 'blacking out' on Fedora

Not sure if this belongs in the Laptop or Hardware section, so if this is the wrong spot I apologize.

I <3 Fedora. I used it a while back, and absolutely fell in love. However, I had this weird problem where sometimes my laptop's screen would just 'go black', (not dead, but black), and I can still hear the machine running, but it becomes completely un-responsive, and the only way to fix it is to manually shut it down and restart.

This kept happening for a while, so I tried Ubuntu.... and Ubuntu did not have that problem at all! So I am assuming it has something to do with Fedora.

Anyways, I decided to come back to Fedora, because Fedora > Ubuntu, and just try to attempt at figureing out why my computer does this. Since I've installed it, it has begun doing this black out thing. Any ideas, tests, or specs I should provide? Thanks for any help

It sounds like your laptop is suspending and won't wake up-check your power management settings and don't let the laptop suspend (go to sleep) until you find a fix for your laptop. It could be desktop effects (compiz etc) that is the problem or a number of things. A bit of googling normally finds a simple solution.

Can you still see your mouse pointer when the screen goes black?
