Anybody know where Gedit plugins are now stored?

Under Gnome2, user plugins were put into ~/.gnome2/gedit/plugins/ however that does not seem to work in Gnome3. I also tried ~/.config/gedit/plugins/ and that did not work either.

Re: Anybody know where Gedit plugins are now stored?

the only gedit plugins I can find on my system are in 2 places

/usr/lib/gedit/plugins
/usr/share/gedit/plugins

There should be someplace under the home folder for them to be, but don't see it here.

Yeah, even in gnome2 the user-level plugin folder had to be created. Perhaps I should ask the gedit folks...

I think I may have found the answer here:

https://live.gnome.org/Gedit/PythonPluginHowTo

According to what I see there, the gedit plugin folder is ~/.local/share/gedit/plugins/ (and it does say that you may have to create it)

Try "~/.config/gedit". A few Gnome applications seem to have moved to the same place.

Edit, too slow and wrong i guess.

Ah yes, I see now. https://live.gnome.org/Gedit/PythonPluginHowTo has the answers.

It seems Gedit 2.x plugins are not compatible with Gedit 3.x. I'm going to have to port them. For starters, the filenames are changed from *.gedit-plugin to *.plugin and that file format is slightly different.

Thanks guys! That's enough to get me started.

It was a really good guess, though

That was one of the places that I looked for it on my system.

Yeah, that was the first place I tried too. Made sense to me.

Just for clarification to those who stumble upon this post, the user-level plugins for Gedit are placed in ~/.local/share/gedit/plugins/ in Gnome3, however, there are some differences to the plugins themselves. So it appears as though Gedit2 plugins will not work without some modifications.
