Exclamation 38 Problems with update (dependency problems)

Hi,
The update manager won't install updates because of dependency problems. I am unsure as to what i should do next. I ran (yum --skip-broken update) and got more info than I can understand. Here are the last few lines.

Code:
[root@teraquad Desktop]#
[root@teraquad Desktop]#
[root@teraquad Desktop]#
[root@teraquad Desktop]# yum --skip-broken update

What does it all mean? Am I going to have to delete and reinstall all of these applications by hand? What would cause this many errors all at once? This all started with the 4/12/2011 security update.

Thanks!

Re: 38 Problems with update (dependency problems)

Since I don't see the repo data being downloaded in your log, it appears there may be a problem with the cached files that yum is using in this instance or a network issue.

Try
Code:
yum clean all && yum upgrade -y --skip-broken

Thanks for the reply!

I did as you ask and the results are in the attached plain text file. It appears as if nothing changed even though it did work on it a while.

Thanks again!

Re: 38 Problems with update (dependency problems)

What is repository "DropBox" ? I suspect that's the problem (see in scratch.txt in post 3)

Re: 38 Problems with update (dependency problems)

Possibly could be, marko.

Anytime that you add repositories other than the fedora repo's, you add to the possibility of dependency issues.

rpmfusion is a fairly safe repo to add since they work closely with fedora and are pretty good about keeping things in sync but there still are problems that crop up from time to time. Others are known to cause big problems, like atrpms if you keep it enabled all the time.

About the only added repo's I consider leaving enabled all of the time on my systems are rpmfusion and adobe. (adobe doesn't keep any conflicting packages, just flash player and acrobat reader.)

Edit:

After re-reading my above comment, I do want to clarify that the explanation on adding repo's wasn't directed at marko as I am certain he is well aware of the problems that can occur. It was a general clarification for anyone else reading that doesn't yet realize the conflicts that can and will occur. I just wanted to clarify that it wasn't just directed towards marko, Just my first sentence saying that he may be correct was all that is directed at him.

Re: 38 Problems with update (dependency problems)

Thanks! for the reply,

I removed the dropbox repository and re ran the (yum clean all && yum upgrade -y --skip-broken) command with the same results. I did install the dropbox program about the same time as this problem started so i guess that is the problem. any ideas where i go from here?

Re: 38 Problems with update (dependency problems)

Hello,
Post a normal out put of "yum update"
If you are going to put it on a txt file run "unix2dos yum.txt" This is going to keep it in line

Re: 38 Problems with update (dependency problems)

Looks like hugin is your problem child.

Hugin is looking for library libexiv2.so.9
could try
# yum whatprovides libexiv2.so.9

This is my current version:
exiv2-libs-0.21.1-1.fc14.x86_64

try
# yum update --exclude hugin* exiv2-libs*
Package exiv2-libs.i686 0:0.21.1-1.fc14 set to be updated
Package exiv2-libs.x86_64 0:0.21.1-1.fc14 set to be updated

Something else yum is trying to load two different version of exiv2-libs

If this does not work you can update each package manually
BTW I have dropbox repo and never caused any problems for me
