Dockingstation 2nd monitor

Hey,

got a little troublle with the 14 relase,
got an Samsung P580 Notebook with intel Grafik chip.

Most works fine, just when i put it into the docking station with two monitors (dvi & vga) the first one (dvi) works fine, but the second (vga) has some (much) "noise" in the picture (like wrong Hz setting or like the old CRT if you put a mobile phone near it)

Both are the same model of monitors (Samsumg SyncMaster P2250) switched the connectors (dvi <-> vga) and its everytime the same, the vga one have a noise... Changed cable allready too.

(*hust* and in windows it works without the noise)

Allready installed all updates, and tried to update graphic drivers (are up to date)

So i'm out of ideas... any hint or tip how to solve this?

thanks Mike

Re: Dockingstation 2nd monitor

If these are LCDs there is probably an optimum setting for each one, whether they get DVI or VGA input. Have you gone through the *monitor*'s built-in menu? One of the options gives you info like refresh rate, and another is like a master reset to default settings. But you probably have been through these anyway.

Check the Xorg.0.log. See if there are any warnings or severe errors (indicators are WW or EE, respectively). What kind of setup are you doing? Clone mode, or wide desktop with spanning? In your BIOS, see if you can set aside some more of your RAM for graphics rendering.

If it's the docking station. You may want to try an alternative. there is a USB attachment that could do VGA, if you won't be gaming on that laptop. Then you can skip that VGA output on the docking station, and use that USB port instead.
