F15 - high RAM usage?

My current installation of F15 KDE seems to use a lot of RAM, a lot more than usual. Immediately after booting it is using around 450MB, and with Firefox open that goes up to 650+. I have a pretty normal, minimal set of services starting.

Is this normal, as it seems very high?

Re: F15 - high RAM usage?

System monitor says 506mb on my system as I type this with Firefox.

Thats after some tweaking, the only way to further reduce the memory consumption would be to tweak the Fedora kernel.

Re: F15 - high RAM usage?

tweaking the kernel is a no-op, unless you are removing drivers...

F15 is a bit of a pig on memory.

Systemd alone takes over 15MB.

Re: F15 - high RAM usage?

Fair enough, if it's normal then i'll just deal with it - it wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't for my weird swap problem (in another thread).

Cheers then.
