Fedora 15 touchpad does not work in KDE

Fedora 15 HP notebook.

The touchpad is not working in KDE but works fine in Gnome.

First time I booted into KDE the touchpad was working so I enabled tapping and it stopped working. No I can't make it work anymore, even enabling it in the configuration window.

How to fix?

Tried that.

One missing information: the touchpad buttons work, just moving the pointer and tapping does not.

Hello Kakao

If you look in the file:

Quote:
.kde/share/config/kcmtouchpadrc
take a look for a line:

Quote:
TapButton1=
if the touchpad tapping is going to work the equals sign should be immediately followed by a numeral 1

Quote:
TapButton1=1

Ye, that file is correct.

The most important part is not tapping. It is moving the pointer.

Hello Kakao

I've not many more real ideas I'm afraid.

Does your laptop have any switch that enables you to turn the touchpad on and off?

It may be an electronic one if so that Linux doesn't engage with properly.

What type pf touchpad do you have?

Last time I tried part of the output from:

Code:
cat /proc/bus/input/devices
identified that.

Re: Fedora 15 touchpad does not work in KDE

Strange indeed, the same thing happened to me with my Acer 5520. In system settings when I enabled tapping, everything stopped, couldn't move the pointer with anything, pad or arrow keys, had to plug in a mouse.
Since it's a fresh install, I went back to Gnome and deleted my .kde dir and started over.
Pointer now moves, scrolls, highlights when hovering, haven't used the config for it again and just clicking using the pad keys.
This file: kde/share/config/kcmtouchpadrc is not in my dir, only gets created when you run the config for the touchpad maybe?

Still playing around with both KDE and Gnome 3 to see which I like better.

Re: Fedora 15 touchpad does not work in KDE

Removing that file brought tapping back. Then I entered the tapping config and tapping was already ticked although that file didn't exist. I checked it after entering the tapping config. Just that tapping invoked the right mouse button as the mouse was set to left handed. When I changed the mouse hand it went to normal, that is, invoking left mouse button. I guess tapping should not be linked to mouse hand setting and should always invoke the left mouse button. When I use the kvm switch I want the mouse to be left handed.

Edit:

What screws the touchpad is changing "Touch Sensitivity" setting in the config panel.

Why there is no touchpad acceleration setting?

Re: Fedora 15 touchpad does not work in KDE

I have just installed Fedora 17 KDE spin edition and I was going through the same problem... I edited the file "~/.kde/share/config/kcmtouchpadrc" as user "bbfuller" suggested and the touchpad tap turned to work fine... and the option in KDE touchpad tap settings became to work as well...

Thank you bbfuller !
