Use the SSH tunnel option in vinagre

I've set up a machine with VNC through SSH. And it works just great when I first create the tunnel using:
Quote:
ssh -L 5902:10.0.0.250:5902 jk@10.0.0.250
and then open localhost::5902 in vinagre (if I input localhost:2 it auto changes to localhost::5902 for some reason).

I would however like to have one less window (gnome-terminal) open and use the "Use host _ as SSH tunnel" in vinagre.
But for the life of me I can't get it to work. Anyone here that can help me figure out what to input in vinagre to get it to work (without having gnome-terminal open in the background) ?

Re: Use the SSH tunnel option in vinagre

No matter what I try I get the following message:
"Error creating the SSH tunnel
Error reading from unix: Input/output error"

Re: Use the SSH tunnel option in vinagre

Try "-N" for an option. That suppresses the remote terminal channel.

I know that suppresses it in the usual terminal, had no idea it would have an effect in the vinagre field, so I tried it. Came up blank, nothing happened other than the error message mentioned above.

Hmmm...

As a last try you can use redirection (</dev/null 2>&1 >logfile) to assign stdin/stdout/stderr to valid (but nearly useless) entries. It should, at a minimum, but any output (stderr or stdout) in logfile.

Exactly where, and how do I do that?

I just want vinagre to do what "ssh -L 5902:10.0.0.250:5902 jk@10.0.0.250" in terminal does for me.

Re: Use the SSH tunnel option in vinagre

Thanks a lot! I was starting to think that I was just too much of a noob to get this to work.
